View Full Version : Portal/Codex for BS

I've been thinking a lot lately on the current state of the game. Many long time players are leaving, unhappy with the lack of content other than goals which they're not happy with either. This made me wonder what the game could offer players that wouldn't require more daily work from the already bogged down team. This is what I landed on: A Trading Portal for Bakery items!

It would be great if BS and RS could have an Exchange Shop or something along those lines. I'm thinking of the Dragon Story Codex and Portal where players can trade a duplicate dragon for Essence then turn around and use those Essence to craft a dragon they need. In BS and RS, we could trade our duplicate crate items for some sort of currency - for the purpose of this post we'll call them Points.

Over the years, I've amassed so many duplicate decos that a large majority of them never see the light of day, forever relegated to my storage. I know I'm not alone in this and it's a discouraging factor when considering a Mystery Crate purchase. If we had a way to use these unwanted duplicates, I think players would be more apt to make more Mystery Crate purchases. I know I would!

If I knew I could trade my duplicates in for Points that could then be used to craft an item I had no luck in winning... I'd tap a box every time I had the gems to spare. This would also be a great way for S8 to offer locked goal items to players who originally missed the goal or bring back Holiday LTOs or even offer exclusive prizes from other S8 games in BS.

When trading Crate items: the 4th Prizes could offer 10 Points, the 3rd Prizes 20 Points, the 2nd Prizes 30 Points and the 1st Prizes 50 Points. Then, we could craft any Mystery Crate item we wanted with the accumulated Points.

Again, the amount of points needed would be dependent on how rare the prize was to begin with; the 4th Prizes requiring the least points (maybe 25 or so) to craft and the 1st Prizes costing the most, like 100 Points. For locked goal items: the tables, chairs and counters would require the least points to craft, the ovens and recipes a bit more, the coin decos would cost even more and the gem items would - of course - require the most Points to craft.

Naturally these trades wouldn't be instant, each trade would require a few hours as they do in DS. The lowest trade could take 3 hours and the time would increase by 3 hours with each level, ending with the highest trade taking 12 hours. And perhaps we could win Points when completing goals as well. Once the Exchange is established in the game the possible applications would be limited only by the teams imagination.

There are many various ways this Point scale could be set up to offer players long term enjoyment and continued interest in the game. I can't see that anyone would lose out with this system. S8 would get more gem purchases and renewed player interest. Players would have the ability to earn long wanted items and have something other than goals to focus their time and effort on.

This could really work to help revitalize the game, I think. And after the initial set up, it would require little attention from the team long term so they could keep focusing on new goals and crates as they are now.

This could be a good idea. Would very much depend on how it was implemented. They tend to make things more expensive than necessary so you would have to turn in too many items just to get one. If they did that many would not be happy. Plus Bakery always gets the short end of the stick on new updates. As if it is the unwanted step child. I would love to see updates implemented equally between the two games, rather than the obvious favoritism towards restaurant.

Anyway, if this could be expanded to other items too that would be great. Over the years We have been forced to buy so many items because events required it that I now own 4 chairs, and 4 tables of various designs that I never wanted. As well as various “any decor item” that I still do not want. I would love to have a way to get rid of them other than selling them for pennies on the dollar. If they could get rid of this forced buy feature in events that would be nice too.

I would imagine getting rid of these forced purchases would help them as well. They keep removing items to (I assume) relieve storage space in their system. And yet because we have been forced to buy stuff we would not normally have bought on our own they are having to store additional data because of it. Would be a win for both sides if we were not forced to buy 4 specific tables, chairs or “any decor item” when there is not anything we want so just buy something to complete the event.

What many of us would love to see is a way to keep the items list from popping back to the first item when decorating with items that are no longer available. It makes redecorating take 5 times longer than it should. I have other games that have done it so I know it’s possible.
Otherwise a new tab just for holiday items would help. And/or a separate tab just for dividers would also be helpful. When you use dividers you tend to use many to create a wall and boy is it a pain to keep getting put back to the first item in the list 20-30 times just to make a wall.
or a tab just for items that are no longer available would even help. Many different solutions to the same problem.

Just making the games more user friendly and adding new decor items would make many happier. When there is no new content, just repeats of the same old stuff we get bored. I will not even mention adding double tap to spend gems feature that we have begged for, since I know it won’t happen. I play other games that have added a double tap and people freely buy gems because they know they will not accidentally lose them. What a concept.

I think the idea is awesome. I just started playing about a year ago and there are so many past items that I would love to have. This of course wouldn’t be quite so necessary if the caliber of gifts were equal to those given in the past. In the two Christmases I’ve played BS I’ve only had goals that were winter not Holiday. I have had to spend so much money on crates to get decent Christmas decor. The decor offered to RS is so much better. So to have the ability to purchase (swap, trade or whatever would be so nice. I understand there are only so many ideas for Christmas, but the last two goals back to back offered blue theme winter decor with Christmas trees and or gifts. Why couldn’t they make goal items from RS available to BS and BS to RS as well?

I definitely agree. In my opinion, I think they need to lower the need to buy things for goals.

4 tables/4 chairs, just between them it costs up to at least 100.000k, or if they're going to make us buy things just to get to a different part of the goal, they at least need to lower the pricing to it. As to be honest, most of the things that I have to buy for the goal, I will sell/ or just never use.

And to even sell the tables/chairs that cost about 14,000, will only get you 1,400 back.

However I disagree (respectfully) with the favouritism with Restaurant to a certain extent. I think Bakery Story is favoured more in terms of new boxes/crates (restaurant has only gotten 1 box this past year, whereas bakery has at least gotten over 5+) while some of the goal items in Restaurant Story is better, I just think they're falling flat on Bakery Story with goal items, compared to Restaurant Story, but in my opinion, I don't think it's because of favouritism. I think it's just the lack of trying, and I definitely feel like they could have potential to make Bakery Story the best/or the same level as Restaurant Story, in terms of good/great goal designs.

As of right now, no - you have to unlock the items while the goal is active or they remain locked indefinitely. The only current exceptions are if the goal item is relisted in a sale or in a 5 Day Goal.

I would even be willing to sell excess event decos or items for Zero (like DS does), just to clear my inventory. And making the Sort tabs work should be a high priority too.

I also have wondered if we could trade items and share food with our neighbors..so we don’t have so much inventory that we aren’t using. Also, I think it would be easier to gift if all the “basic” were together, instead of having to scroll through all of them to get to the basic parts, like a little menu bar that you click on to select categories, it’s time consuming enough to get through all our neighbors, and for those like me who’s reset time is Midnight PST, it’s a struggle to stay awake, if I wait until morning, everyone is maxed.
These are just a few ideas I wanted to share..

Trading with neighbors would be the ideal, for any s8 game, but that would involve much more programming (and bugs!) for them to work out. Which is the main reason why I think trading between a player and the game itself is a much more likely scenario and the best we could ever hope to see in the games.

They've already figured out how to offer in-game trading in other s8 games, so doesn't that mean that most of the groundwork is already done? I get that each game is unique and they each operate differently but I stand by the logical thought that converting another s8 game's trading system to work in the BS/RS apps would be less work than creating an entirely new trading system from the ground up.

When Dragon Story got their trading system years ago I was so excited to see that s8 was willing to include trading - in any form - in their games. But.... then it just sort of stopped right where it started in DS, never making it to the other story games which is so disappointing!

I don't understand why Storm8 ignores the players of this game. We have to pay more for gems than other S8 games, we're ignored when sending questions about the game or reporting problems, and there have been NO interesting updates in YEARS. The only response I ever get when reporting a problem is that there aren't enough people to respond to individual concerns! It's so frustrating. I have 3 bakeries. There is a player on 2 of my neighbor lists who stopped playing about 5 years ago. I have deleted her bakery multiple times on both games, and it just pops back on my lists! They won't do anything about it. The "new" (it was actually released several years ago) Bakery Story 2 game just sits there with no attention being paid to it either. There isn't even a way to communicate with other players on BS2.

As for your ideas, I have thought the same things. Farm Story 2 has a way to sell items to other players. I would love to be able to do that with Bakery Story. Selling items to other bakeries, fulfilling orders from other sources, etc. would make the game so much more interesting!

Yes! Also, when looking for parts to send it takes so long to find it. Is there a way there could be tabs for the items we have and items to gift.

Since 2013 I have been playing this game. I enjoy it! However, I am very disappointed with all of the goal oven& items that I still have locked. All of the cute holiday ovens from years past or locked. Several seasonal oven locked. This is awful. There should be a way to return & get some of the items. I understand it is not your fault we missed these items. As loyal players, I think it would be nice to reopen some ovens from 2013-2017.

With all the uncertainty people are facing at the moment (in regards to their future employment and the financial situation in general) I feel like the need for a trading system is more pressing than ever.

I feel relatively sure that lots of players who normally spend on gems are now hesitating or refraining entirely to focus on more pressing concerns. If the team would roll out a trading system, then players could continue to access gem items without taking away from their real life obligations.

I understand that game economy is something they have to consider. But really, which would be worse for long term game stability: players trading their duplicate items to supplement their lack of gem purchasing or players deciding to walk away entirely when they feel that the game isn't as enjoyable without gems to get new/limited items?

Just sayin' s8, it's something to consider! :o

I?m not sure. Sounds sort of complicated. There are prizes from previous goals that I?d like to unlock, but doing something more to earn points sounds like it will make the game more time consuming than its already turned into.
Why not give players the option to trade items between themselves? There could be a portal where players can put items in & others can take an item out that a nbr agreed to trade for. S8 could charge a nominal fee for access..nothing too extravagant as a lot of players don?t have a lot of gems & cant afford to buy them. Plus I think more players would buy if the fee were maybe 10 gems per transaction. 10 for the seller and 10 for the buyer. Any player can show what they have by displaying in a corner of their stor, or nbrs can say, I?m looking for Fountain, or a holiday decor.
Player can display what they have.
I just don?t want to do a lot more cooking or saving to earn points plus try to keep up with goals.
Would also be awesome if players could exchange decor from one game to another. Say bs & rs can trade or sell decor from either.l

I like this idea as well - any trading system is good in my books ;)

The reason why my initial post was based around the premise of trading our own items within our own games and not direct trading with neighbors was mainly from a programming standpoint. Over the years, the main framework of the game hasn't really upgraded a lot (or at all) so for them to implement a system that would work like trading in FS2 would require a LOT of time and effort on the team's part to add the new system and update the framework to support it. And that's not even getting into all of the possible/likely issues we'd see with trying to get this new system to work within the a framework that's old and already starting to see issues with basic functions (like no notifications, videos not playing, etc.).

The self-trading system, is very like the Portal/Codex system they've already set up in Dragon Story. Since DS's initial framework was sort of similar and hasn't been changed entirely since release (though it has been updated more than BS) it makes it a better comparison to BS/RS; the games are different while still having a lot of similarities in the way the systems work, I think.

Farm Story 2/Bakery Story 2, however, are obviously run on a very, very different base system - very little in those games can be directly compared to BS/RS. Things that are possible in those games won't ever be possible in BS/RS without taking the games offline to basically change the game foundations entirely. I think it's much more likely that if we were to ever get a trading system, it would be one that requires as little extra work for the team, has been proved to work already and will cause the least amount of bugs when integrated into the game's current system.

My overall point, however, is that trading seems like the natural next step in the game regardless of which version they choose to use or how they choose to add it into our games. ANY trading would be a great improvement over nothing at all!

Will I still be able to get my account back after being suspended? Made a report about an accidental purchase but they suspended the acct right away. I completely agree!

I really want my Candy Robot over on my DeadlyFangs bakery. I would at least like to exchange between 2 bakeries - I would only do it once, however. Not between neighbours, as this is the only item I want, as the other items I want, can eventually be gotten via box/ or sale. The Candy Robot cannot be gotten that way. Or gotten at all.

But I would pay good money just to even get my Candy Robot transferred. As I believe 98% that it never will be re-released again. Due to it being apart of a promotion. When promotional items are done, the likelyhood of the same item returning - are slim to none.

55160

I would at LEAST pay over 30 dollars (and more) if that meant I could get my Candy Robot over there. He would look so much better over there, in my snowy ville bakery, as it looks so much better over there than on my kappy bakery. 55159

I would be so happy if it were to happen, though I unfortunately don't see it ever happening, unfortunately :(

So I'll just admire it displayed in my kappy333 bakery :)

I love this idea.
Trading for points would be great for crate and larger locked items.
I also think that trading players for parts would be great! If you?re concerned about it happening during goals.... then it could only be available after a goal is complete. I have so many extras in my inventory from old goals where I got too many of a part and someone else could probably use them.

You could also bring back old ovens or recipes. Once we reach 4, we have nothing to shoot for by cooking that recipe. Or maybe increase the 4 to 8. That gives us another way to earn gems. I?ve lost several neighbors who have gotten bored with the game. We need incentives, plus fix the crashing. A few updates would be great and so would being able to get ovens that are locked. I?d buy gems if I could open up locked stuff.

I think the points system, while powerful, does require the development of the exchange itself and seems a little complicated. I would suggest instead the ability to browse inventories of other players, only being able to see items they designate as being willing to barter. This would incentivize visiting lots of restaurants, increasing user engagement. You select the item you want from their designated inventory, make them an offer, and wait up to 7 days for a reply. After 7 days, barter requests go away. So it's all person to person, with no larger points system.

HERE, HERE!!!!!!! I?VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS! I actually haven?t been able to play (ANY) 😢😔😩 of my S8 Games (on ANY devices) for a really long time, plus-like katequilter53 says, we?re loosing friends & neighbors ?...bcuz they?ve gotten bored with the game.? I know I had; or was gonna, the way things were going. Freezing, crashing, no updates, losing items (bcuz of lack of updates...!) I have actually had this happen to almost all of my favorite games, now! Well, at least the ONLINE games... They should at least allow us all to be able to buy decorations for our bakery (slash-whatever we have... store, rest?t, etc.) & even decorate OFFLINE, if they?re not gonna update it anymore! Or make them COMPLETELY OFFLINE! I?m just saying, tho.

No, no, no... I GOT IT!... Trading, like gifting btween neighbors- free. Then, u could put up ads, so to speak; of what you want/need & what you?re willing to put up for it! I play an ?mmorpg? (or something like that...!) game & they will have IT every so often; & they call it the ?Trading Post?. U post what ?unit? (either a monster or a warrior unit) u wanna get rid of, & post 3 options for receipt (which one or ones u would like to get back... u only get 1, but it is easier to get anything back if u give a few options). Someone comes along & says, ?oooh, i need that unit!?, & the next time u get into the game, one of ur 3 is waiting for you in ur ?gift box?, or whatever. This game calls it a stash. BS calls it a ?gifts? tab.

Interesting idea BUT...
I played once before and my reason for leaving was frustrations (not boredom).
1. Selecting neighbors to gift needs a "Select All" feature. With 200+ neighbors, it's too tedious to pick everyone individually.
2. Selection of item to gift needs more features.
a. A scrollbar to get close quickly. Have to click over 100 times to get to food or general parts. This is ridiculous, and only getting worse with 4 new parts every few days.
b. Search capability. Let me type part of name "motor" or "coil" and show only those.
c. Sort function. Sort alphabetically, by newest parts (goals). Only benefit with scrollbar.
d. Select category - food, general parts, goal parts, all. Again, this helps more with the scrollbar.
3. Ability to clear an accepted gift notification after accepted. Some neighbors are always maxed in gifts before I'm awake. These notifications clutter my list. Also to be able to clear tip and help notifications too.

I'm on an Android, so don't know if these are features on iPhone. Android now has 78% of the market share where iPhone has <20%.

S8 needs to resolve frustrations before adding fluff features.

I agree that there a lot of little things that need updating in the game to make daily playing easier but am still passionate on my belief that a trading system of some sort would make the more enjoyable as well.

You may want to scroll through the rest of the suggestion forum and add to the threads dealing with the topics you sited - hopefully, if enough of us ask for the same things often enough we'll see a change. ;)
