Getting enough food

Does anyone have a suggestion on how to get enough food ?- I always seem to end up really low whenever there a dragon that needs to go on a high level for any of the events.
I'd prefer not to have to buy food, but I don't know if there's a way to get enough food without buying it.

If you have time plant upgrapes continuously especially with a farm boost applied. The next best thing is rushrooms. Then after that is diamondates.

It all really applies on how much time you have. No need to apply boost on the rushrooms or diamondates though I find. So if you are home chilling watching a movie upgrapes are good to do. If you are working not able to check in as regular diamondates every 5 hours is the one.

All the above food take quite a bit of coins so make sure you have enough and also remember to collect all the coins when you can if you are low level. Hth.
