Missing the "free gem" icon

On Bakery Story, I will always get the option to watch 10 ads for 10 gems. This offer pops up after 24 hours.

But whilst loading Restaurant Story, I see the option of earning free gems to the top right side of the screen. But then when the game loads, the option is gone. Even if I didn't get the free gems on Bakery Story, the option does not appear on Restaurant Story, so I'm wondering if this is a bug...

The free gem offer loads on my iPad, but on my S5 there are no free gem offers for either games.

Is there some way to trigger the free gems offer in Restaurant Story?

I have an iPhone 5s using version 10.3.3 and restaurant story version 1.8.
My option to watch video ads to double coin income for 2 hours and earn free gems was previously missing for about a month, it then appeared for 2 days and has now disappeared again for another 3 days. I understand the wait time is about 24 hours for more videos but clearly it has been more than 24 hours and I've missed out on a lot of gems because of this. Hope this can be fixed asap :(

That comes and goes, very random. Some people (like MOI) never got it. If you ever get free gems, consider yourself one of the lucky ones.

Watching one video to remove two hours from the cooking time of any item will remove one video you can watch to get a gem. I hope that makes sense as I can't think of another way to say it.

Because that's not a permanent feature. You get it for a while IF you are lucky. Some people (like moi) never get it at all.

For me, ever since i buy gem about a almost 2 year ago for halloween box and crate - i have never see the free gem video pop up after (it did before i buy gem)- so do know that they take away the free gem offer when you buy gem.

Also i talk to my in game friends and after they buy gem, they never see the free gem offer either - but they did before they buy some gem.

I've noticed something in the last week. In my android restaurant or bakery I can watch video to speed up cooking which helped me tremendously in the last goal. I am another who purchased gems and no longer have the videos for free gems. I contacted customer service and was told they had no control over the videos and to go to the forums for an answer. It has been months now and I don?t play as often which is a shame because I really like the game. I have played RS for 10 years on different devices. Wish Storm8 would value their players enough to fix this problem.

I'm assuming--with absolutely no proof or inside knowledge--that getting a player to directly buy gems from s8 is a lot more profitable than whatever fraction of a cent they earn for every video a player watches. So when they have a player who has a proven willingness to buy gems (because they have before), the go-to move is to convince them to purchase again. Personally, I much prefer the "tempt them into it" method, where making a purchase gets you a special item unavailable to anyone not willing to shell out. But "back them into a corner" by making it much harder to get gems maybe has better results, I don't know.

Of course, if you've never bought gems, they can look for other ways to monetize you, by getting whatever tiny payment they get when you watch a video. And maybe all those players who never visit the forum don't realize that other people are getting offers they aren't.

Anyway, it's #1 on my list of things that bug me in these games, but being a long time player in my main restaurant / bakery kind of balanced it out. My newer restaurants can earn way more gems (since I've never bought gems there and get videos), but they'll still never get the awesome old goal prizes my main place has. (Which doesn’t necessarily help others, but cheers me up when my lack of easily obtained gems gets me down.)

So i bought diamonds around Christmas time and after I did that i no longer got the free 10 diamonds u get when u watch adds. Has this happened to anyone else? I've had the option to watch free gems for months, both for BS and RS. I've never purchased gems in RS before, and have had the free gems option pop up consistently for three straight months and it's still popping up. I've bought about 400 gems for bakery story on iOS through purchasing the starter pack about 8 times- and suddenly, poof. No free gems option anymore. Just an option to watch 2 videos a day to reduce cooking time. This has been ongoing for almost a month now, and when the 23rd of April hits, it will be exactly a month since I bought gems for BS. In that time, I could've accumlated 300 gems which basically renders my gems purchase redundant...I've noticed and other players have noticed that buying gems takes away this option and it is completely unfair...the option was a drive for me to play the game as after you master all the recipes, you can't get any more gems. There has to be a fix for this, because I paid money to support the game so I could expand faster, and now I can't expand any more as the option was the only way I could even dream of expanding.

So, I cast doubts that this is a random promotional feature. It seems that this feature is only available if you don't ever pay money to get gems. If there's any way to contact storm8 about this I'd like to know since they have limited support for the game. Because I love this game and the free gems option was the reason I kept playing because everything costs gems and the opportunity to watch 10 videos a day was a life saver. If I don't see the option in the next 2 weeks I just might abort the game :(

I agree with the responding to said you shot yourself in the foot that's exactly how I feel. And I like you did it to support the game because I enjoyed it so much. The game sucks and the support too. It is not a "promotional offer". The free gems make you watch ten ads for ten gems. Then it takes 24 hours for it to come back. So that's how you get ten gems a day and it would only take a couple of days to expand your restaurant. But if you purchase something with real money that option is gone. And if you want to contact support ya can't because it takes as long as a month for them to get back to you. It is obvious they don't care about anyone or what problems they have. If they had a phone number I would have told them off by now. This game was cute and fun and I played it faithfully and now it sucks because I can't get free gems so now I can't expand or buy special things. Really sucks. And PS if you have ios you can't restart the game because it remembers your account.

Sorry to say, but the free gem videos are a promotional feature that is randomly assigned so there is no way to know if or when it will return.

Some players have it leave for a while then return again, others always have it and others still have never seen the offer at all. There is nothing we can do to bring back the offers or hurry their return; only time will tell if your offers will return and when they do so.

I have the same problem. I lost it a while ago and than after a few weeks the gem-icon popped up again. And since yesterday it's gone again.
So I'm hoping it will come back in a few weeks. But I doubt it.

No issue in my game. Can you check your device and connection as video streaming can be more heavy? Please post in Bugs and Issues forum if you need more help. Hope it works.

Actually yes, ever since I reached level 99, I got an offer to purchase gems for a very cheap Prince and so of course I did. I never got the option to get free gems after that however I still have the option to speed the cooking time by watching ads. This is honestly sad because this is a very expensive game. Expansion costs a lot and so does decorations so there should be the free gems option for everyone so that they can still enjoy the game. For expansion I literally relied on saving up the free gems I got because I can never reach the amount of coins they ask for so I hope storm8 releases things like free gems for logging in etc

The gems aren’t free. They are just called “free gems”, but you have to watch ads to get them, so Storm 8 does earn money with them.
And the problem isn’t that Storm 8 is giving us the free gems only from time to time. I’m despite that thankful that they do so. The problem is that they lie about the mechanism when we get ads! They just say it is random, but there are definitely some non-random rules involved.

The only free gems we can seem to earn now (us, the player who have buy gems - or just people who have been unfortunate to lose them) is now only by food mastery, it seems. :( Unfortunately.

I?m confused why there have been so many questions about free gems? Honestly, Storm didn?t have to give us free gems at all. it doesn?t make them money, so if we got them, that?s great, but if not, or if we only got them for a while, we should thank our lucky stars that we got it at all. I have spent a lot of money on this game. Probably more then I should have, given the fact that there are so many issues with it, and they have become less concerned with that fact and have changed the game so much that a lot of people have quit. I NEVER got the free gems, for either game, but I?m glad some others did. But I say, be thankful you got them. Many others didn?t. ��

I think if you got them and then they disappeared (randomly) like many others within the forum, your response I feel would be different.

I have a Samsung J7 Sky Pro that I play Bakery Story on. For the past two weeks the icon for the free gems is missing. I can go to my Ipad and it's there but I don't want to carry my Ipad every time the video icon shows up. Is there any way this can be fixed?

It may eventually come back on your Samsung, but don't count on this.

I have Free Gems Icon shown on my HTC phone (Android 8.0) but always got Sorry, the video failed to load.

In case people were wondering if they were safe from the gems not disappearing if they don't buy gems, that's not the case. I never purchased anything in this game and my option to view videos for gems disappeared suddenly. I'm not sure how long it usually stays for but from what I've read in the thread, the longest it sticks around is maybe 4 months? Which I think was the same with me. Then I accidentally clicked the top left corner while I was collecting tips and poof! 100 gems were gone because I had accidentally purchased 6 million coins. No confirmation button, nothing. I contacted storm8 support to see if the mistake could be reversed but they said there was nothing they could do. I think this feature is extremely unfair and if I ever considered giving them my money for gems before, that thought is long gone now. I doubt I will ever see the gems feature again, and slowly expanding my bakery is very frustrating. Due to quarantine, I have nothing better to do, but once I go back to working full time, I'll probably leave the game.

Sorry, but there's nothing that can be done. The Free Gem Videos are a promotional feature that come and go randomly, the only thing you can do is wait and see if they return.

Actually, they?re just called ?Free Gems?, but we have to watch ADs to get them. They?re considered ?free? bc we don?t have to purchase. Storm 8 definitely makes a profit off us watching them. Just like anybody who puts ADs on their website (Ex Google) or videos (ex. YouTube). They get money for Advertising them. Also I believe Android never got the Watch Ads gems bc it doesn?t support it like iOS does. Honestly, it?s just frustrating that it?s inconsistent with loyal players. I too lost the watch ads button and I AM grateful I even had it. It?s just a little disappointing bc they have so many issues that it seems like they?re not in a hurry to fix or even try.

Rumors and anecdotal evidence aside, there is NO guaranteed way to keep the Free Gem videos indefinitely nor are there any proven actions that will cause the offer leave. The free gem videos are a random promotional offer that can come and go at any time. It's out of our control entirely and nothing we do or don't do will change this despite what others claim.

Now I am so very sad!
I bought gems last night and the ad option disappeared for me as well. I am very sad about this and it feels very unfair to be punished for spending money on the game. I will never ever spend any money on any storm8 game again. :(
