Question about gold producing dragons

I have a Gold Horizon dragon that I won from the bingo game. He is at level 9, and it says that he produces 3 gold per day. Occasionally he does, but more often, he only gives 2. I collect at the same time, once a day only. Is this a glitch, or is there some other explanation? Thanks.
