It's funny how sometimes dragons don't work for people. I've had it happen a few times on these fights.

If you have Elf, use it! I have used Elf on Gold-type dragons 9 or 10 times and have only lost once, even though my Elf was only level 7-8 most of those times. When I get to level 19, I'm using Elf first, even though he's only level 9. I don't think it matters, but I always bash. Seems to work!
