umm, thanks for the advice.
No clue why there are two numbers listed (unless someone posted how many they had/needed, i.e.-I currently have 3/5 music sheets) but it looks like the 150,000 is correct, based on Spiritwind's post here:

It is well worth it to upgrade! (Even though it drains gold for the later upgrades) The completed jousting arena has a chance to drop swords and spawns guaranteed monsters during hunting seasons.
Ps. When in doubt, I'd always go with the even numbers....I've never had anything that required an offbeat number of coins. Good luck with the arena!
