The golden apple is a very rare drop from the Magic Garden. I think it's a rare drop from the Desert Sands Adventure as well. Just take your time with the goals. This game teaches patience every day. Many goals are dependent on rare drops unfortunately.

In addition to the those areas listed in the Inventory Guide, it's also a rare drop from the Archery Range, if you happened to get that from the Baron's Tent back in July '15.
I think you can also get one from that pig's trough that drops apples from the Sir Hammy event. That event had some pretty good prizes. I'm not sure, though.
