Question about when all mining expansion slots are opened up

Hello,

I'm on the last expansion space through mining. Once that last space is expanded, can you still do the expansion mining? I've built up about 400 expansion pieces through mining because I don't want to expand the last slot on the island and lose the ability to get the extra food that mining for expansion provides. I read somewhere that once you open up the last expansion slot, you lose the ability to mine for expansion any more. Does anyone know if this is true or not?

Once you get the last expansion, your mine will close off on that side.
