Losing coins/not gaining any

I've been playing the Story games regularly on my kindle/iPad for a couple of years now; I recently re-downloaded Fashion Story after not having played it for about a year. Started over from level 1.

I am now at level 13 and am experiencing serious difficulties. Namely, I am losing coins for no reason. I can sit in the game and watch the number fluctuate from 33,427 to 29,611 or similar fluctuations, for no apparent reason. I am not buying anything or even ordering items from the catalogue when this happens. In the same vein, I don't appear to be making coins at a proportional rate. I can leave the game for 2 hours, come back and have made less than 100 coins. Yet if I check my tables/racks, it is obvious I've sold hundreds of units. This happens whether I close the game completely or let it "sleep" in the background on my iPad.

Any ideas how I might be able to fix this? It's beyond frustrating!
