Mastering crops

I'm currently trying to master rank 3 on several crops and got to looking at the little leafs above each crop. Why after obtaining a leaf does the leaf sometimes appear dimmer than the other leafs? It's not as dim as those I haven't earned yet, but definitely dimmer than the previous ones I've earned. This is the case for crops I've already mastered and am no longer working on as well. Can someone please explain?

it's a bug that has been there since they started the mastery-thingy. It doesn't mean anything.

How do you check master? I can not figure out how to use this.
