Who is able to get ads for gems? I haven't gotten a single one so far. I am a level 50.
It's random who gets to have the video button. There is a thread about it elsewhere which says that it has not yet been fully implemented. If you have the ability to watch a video, then whatever your reward is, eg, 1 energy or 2 energy, then that's all you get. It doesn't cycle through the other options.

Does the energy limit go past 40? This having to wait for energy is for the birds.
The recharge limit is 40. However, if you collect energy from other sources like adventures from the keep, wizard schools, alicorns, energy crates, etc, the limit can go higher, but you don't get the one unit of energy per 3 minutes recharge until your total drops below 40 again.
No. However you can supplement energy with wizard schools, pink or white alicorns, wedding alicorn, and sometimes dragons.
As stated above there are many ways to get extra energy.
