I don't see Lumin Essence here. I was trying to find what it was used for, thank you.

Lumin essence is also used in constructing your cathedral, upgrading your observatory, and crafting your Alicorn.

I'm trying to get purple petals. This thread says that you can get them as a gift but that is not on my list of gifts. Any ideas?

You can get purple petals on every drop from a Rocket Larkspur. I think it only unlocks at level 12, though. I'm not sure.
