I have had a similar glitch when trying to evolve my sapphire kraken...i would put it in the evolution temple and when
i returned to collect coins a couple hours later it had escaped, back in its habitat at the same level 6 i put it in to evolve.
It happened three times in a row (about 2 months ago but i didn't report it) then the game righted itself and no such thing has happened since.
