View Full Version : So called "farming"
I am sure this has been discussed repeatedly, so maybe I am just ranting. But the in-game accusations of "farmer" are so misplaced, tiresome, and pointless, that I don't understand why anyone who plays and understands the game would stoop so low.
If you are playing Yahtzee and roll 5-of-a-kind, it's a good thing for you and bad for your opponents. It's kind of the point of the game. Yet I have never heard an opponent cry that you should have avoided rolling yahtzee by only throwing 3 or 4 dice.
In football, scoring a touchdown (6 points), enables a free-kick for an extra point. Never have I heard anyone claim that taking advantage of the free kick is cheating, or wrong.
In Kingdoms (and the other Storm8 games), after you attack an opponent, a neat little button pops up. That button is named "Attack Again". Imagine that? An "Attack Again" button. Hmm, what do you think that button is for? Perhaps some by-design element of the game? My guess is YES, it is a by-design element of the game which makes it easier to repeat a succesful and profitable attack on an opponent. Seems to imply that "farming" is encouraged by design. It is an integral part of the game. It helps the strong generate revenue faster, encourages Vaulting and a more defensive stance toward force outfitting.
Yet whenever you actually maximize your advantage in the game by using "Attack Again" waves of crying, whining, and threats ensue! "Farmer!", "Cheater!", "Bully!", "You're DEAD!", "Help me KILL the Farmer!", blah, blah, blah.
So-called "farming" is an element of the game. Use it to your advantage, and protect yourself from it accordingly. But PLEASE stop crying about it!

There is a huge range of what a "farmer" is. I see a farmer as one who attacks a person of a lower level through multiple days/weeks in an effort to gain as much as possible. Someone who chain attacks 3-5 times just once because you are in their battle list is NOT farming.
People who intentionally have, say, 39 army members at level 80+ in an effort to keep their upkeep as low as possible and still be able to beat people who THEY can see need to realize that the Max Army folks in the same level or level below can also see them. The smaller army has had every chance to get larger, but it was by CHOICE that they stayed so small, so when they get attacked, even once in my experience a few times, feel that you are "Farming" them because they chose to hide like little girls.
I understand and agree that intentionally finding another user who HAS NOT HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO GET ARMOR/WEAPONS/SPELLS that you have available in an effort to make easy money is fairly immoral. Anyone in your level range is fair game. Period.

I agree and there is a defence against this..its called a bounty. Or dont sell all your weapons and sit there naked then cry when someone attacks you.
b1aze - Great point. Targeting a lower level repeatedly over an extended period of time might be excessive. But if that is an extensive problem, them the game developers could change the level ranges, etc.

Just wait until u cross level 100 :)
Range goes all the way up to 175
Lets see what these whiners do when they cross over.
they think its unfair a guy 10 levels can attack u...wait until the gap is 60 levels :(
10 levels? My specific complaint involves a guy 1 level above me. He came up on my "Rivals" screen, and I chain attacked him 3 or 4 times until he went critical. Collected $100k or so. He went balistic, crying "Farmer", paying bounties, and broadcasting for help to bounty me. I laughed it off at first. But then he kept going. So now I hit him repeatedly, bounty him and his friends, and keep it going just for the fun of it.
The best part is that this rocket-scientist is actually in my army. So every time he broadcasts for help against me, I see it. I vault my gold, attack myself to critical, and then wait for the storm. Then I heal and go hit everyone back, including him, and vault all that gold too! It's a pretty good system right now. =)

Hahahahaha..you sure your not a member of CHAOS :P
Whys he complaining when hes a level ABOVE you he has the man advantage and skill points. What a loser ! He deserves getting spanked then.
YAh if you comment surf you can go don quite a few levels in attacking. I dont remeber the exact % but i know I can hit a level 80 guy through comments and im 112.
The rules change a bit when you get into the 100s because there are not as many people as there are under 100. For me when i got past 104 i was wide open to attacks all the way up to 160. plus its relenless...if someone hits you and they get somethign they go full bore and hit you until there is nothing left. Plus they keep on coming back and there is no way to defend against it.
If people dont want to get farmed they need to limit their commenting and build lands and def weapons.

I completely agree with your opening post Kaje. I have always been bothered by whinners that get all pissy because you hit them more then X amount of times a day. My memory sucks so I have no idea who I have hit unless they bounty me, then I just farm them until they whip me or I get tired of it. There are so many whinners that I actually have moved to a program where I attack whoever is at the bottom of the screen and when they give good coin I hit them twice but never more then three times. I still get bountied from time to time but not nearly as much as before. I guess the whinners won. I probably make more by limiting the bounties though.

all you gotta do after you farm someone and they sanction you is take your lumps farm them again and say" ok I wont attack you again bc you're a *****" and then they prob wont sanction you again and you 'll feel like you won.... if they write back anything less than gracious just say "just remember I own you i'm your daddy" they'll know their place or maybe they'll come back stronger and own you! that's when you ask them to join you're alliance! Farming is part of the game. Theres plenty of ATMs out there!

This might be a bit out of the blue but I hate players who tell people who are being farmed to "raise their defense". This is a load of BS end game lol. If someone finds a defense to full death curse give me all call im dying to know

I completely agree with most you. This rant of farming is absolutely ridiculous! The Attack Again feature explains it all. Enough said. End of discussion.
The truth of the matter is this: 90% of the players here are babies and bounty you consistantly just because they in turn are weak players ... and have dont such a poor job managing their time/income/land/weapons, they need to eliminate all their defensive weapons in order to rack in more cash.

I think it is comical when you are farmed by someone continuously for a few weeks .. they obviously have more (whatever) than you do .. so I put them on bounty .. once .. when I was in an area where reception was bad and retaliation pointless. They put me on the bounty list daily for 4 days .. couldn't log on without having notifications in double figures and all about the same person putting me on the list .. jeez .. talk about take it too seriously.
basically if you can't take it .. don't dish it.:D

I just wanted to bring something up, that is correctable, but there are issues on all sides. I wanted to hear what you guys think. I present several different solutions, yet there are problems to each. This is HIGHLY annoying here at the higher levels. It goes as follows:
I have noticed this to be a huge problem in kingdoms. People will farm someone, and have something on their page saying that attacks will stop when they add their code. OR the "farmer" will write some nice note on someone's page telling them to add their code. Then, this person uses this link to have a permanent, and easily accessible, link to the person they wish to farm. I know you will probably say, build your defense, build you offense, call on friends, bounty them, etc. Here is the problem with this. No one cares about deaths beyond level 100, thanks to the flawed bounty system. Not only that, but people level 150 can attack thirty levels down. There is no way, offense or defense, that a level 120 can hope to possibly shake off this higher level attacker.
My possible solutions:
1.) Don't give links from the invite screen. I don't like this idea personally, because I like to check people out before adding them or rejecting them.
2.) Make invites expire. Again, I don't like this, because if you go on a long vacation, or business trip, or study in a foreign country, you miss out on a lot of invites.
3.) Be able to recall an invitation if the person attacks. Either manually, or the invite becomes void if they attack you before adding you.
4.) Make it that you cannot attack someone by following an invite link.
I hope that you can do something about this, because at these higher levels, players become essentially stuck.

Best solution is to remove the ability to attack thru and invite link. Personally your a real loser if you have to resort to methods like that. Thats almost as bad as going thru your army list to attack guys.
Same thing can be done for the whiners crying about the beta link...dont let them attack thru it...i personally dont care about this as the link isnt permanent and rolls off the screen..one quick bounty after an attack can wash away any evidence u were there :P
But the invite link is a permanent link that the guy can get u and theres nothing u can do..and u are forced to invite people into your army due to game dynamics
I hate this whole add people to your army any ways...half my screen is full of blue dots.
Who am i supposed to hit up here?
